Simon Lewis

Simon Lewis is the Senior Technician at the Ruskin School of Art, based at the Bullingdon Road studios, and a practising sculptor.

My role in the Ruskin is to aid in the creation and resolution of problems. This process is the core of the practical end of art making. My response to these challenges centres on an empathy for materials and process combined with an understanding of mechanical forms and functions. The workings of the internal combustion engine however are still a complete mystery.

My own work is largely figurative or constructional and is most often formed in three dimensions. It is inspired and informed by the techniques of illusion and artifice in film; story telling; anatomy and the imagery of comic book art. I was the head sculptor and prop maker on the film Jackboots On Whitehall. I am currently developing film making projects of my own.
