Come and join us for an intensive three-term programme dedicated to contemporary art history and theory. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with some of the foremost thinkers and makers of contemporary art, including the Ruskin’s award-winning tutors as well as your peers in the MFA, BFA and doctoral programmes in Fine Art practice and research. This is a distinctive graduate programme in art history, understood as itself a practice in close dialogue with artists as well as art historians. You’ll also have access to the renowned resources of the University of Oxford, including its unrivalled libraries, museums and colleges, where you will meet students and professors leading new research in their fields, from the Institute for Ethics in AI to Oxford’s renowned Vaccine Group, the Migration Observatory to the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities.

The MSt in Contemporary Art History and Theory is inherently interdisciplinary and encourages you to think and produce art history in ways that are both deeply aware of current debates and innovative in how to address them. The course specifically takes only 15 students a year, allowing for an intimate, rigorous and supportive group environment. Your proximity to practising artists, both staff and students, from early career to established practitioners, offers a unique opportunity to bring history, theory and practice together at a contemporary art school dedicated to these dialogues.
