Brain Catling becomes an RA

The School is delighted to announce that Brian Catling, Professor of Fine Art at the Ruskin, has been elected to become a Royal Academician.

http://www.briancatling.net Brian Catling RA is a sculptor who also writes poetry, makes installations, performance and video works. Recently he has been writing novels and making small egg tempera portraits of cyclopses. 

Catling was born in London in 1948. He studied at the East London Polytechnic (BA), followed by the Royal College of Art (MA). He is currently a fellow of Linacre College, Oxford and Professor of Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. 

Catling is a multi-media artist whose practice encompasses sculpture, painting, performance, video making and poetry. He has been exhibiting his work internationally since 1975. 

Catling says of his work: “I am obsessively engaged in the collision of separate activities that sometimes fuse together in a hybrid event – they being the writing of poetry, the constructing of sculptural installation and the action of performance.
