Alicia Reyes McNamara (MFA 2016) at the South London Gallery

The Ruskin is delighted that Alicia Reyes McNamara, who graduated from the Ruskin's first year of its MFA in June 2016, will be in residence at the South London Gallery's Outset Artists' Flat for 6 months from November 2016.

Her residency will conclude with an exhibition in SLG's first floor galleries in late Spring 2017.

Alicia is the sixth recipient of the SLG's prestigious annual Graduate Residency, available to artists completing a postgraduate or equivalent programme of study, from a national institution, collective, or art school in the UK in the previous year.

Already in 2016, Alicia's work has been included in Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition at the Bluecoat and ICA this year.

These images show Alicia's exhibition in the Ruskin's MFA Degree Show 2016. Her work deals with issues of displacement, particularly within a double diaspora, and aims to challenge incomplete identities constructed by two-dimensional ideas of Latino culture. It acknowledges the absurdity, and at times vulgarity, in the projected images found within media’s exaggerated caricatures and telenovela kitsch.
