Access Workshops at the Ruskin

The Ruskin School recently collaborated with the University's Botanic Garden to provide workshops for local primary school children. These opportunities were offered to give an experience of what it is like to be a student at Oxford University, with access to world renowned teaching and collections.

Tara Benjamin-Morgan, artist and tutor, lead the Fine Art workshops in the Drawing Studio at the Ruskin, and a group of young artists explored their perception of creativity whilst extending their understanding of human anatomy.  The focus was on drawing the structure of the hands and feet and to see ways in which artists have represented the human form in paintings.

Working with pencils, charcoal and ink, the children created their own art, examining a skeleton along the way.  It was the first time the pupils had worked directly from a skeleton and there was lots to discuss!

The workshops at the Botanic Garden then gave the pupils an opportunity to observe and sketch plants from around the world, creating pieces of collaborative artwork and imaginary plants.

The children all received a certificate on completion of their workshops.

We loved spending time with these young artists and look forward to their return to the Ruskin one day soon!
