DPhil candidate Arturo Soto’s photo essay in Granta

Arturo Soto, who is shortly going to complete his DPhil at the Ruskin, has had a new series of works published in the latest issue of Granta, the quarterly journal of new writing.

Border Document 16 / Arturo Soto 2019

The series, "Border Documents", explore the twin cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, which lie either side of the US–Mexico border..

Arturo states: 'The photographs and stories that make up the series Border Documents depict sites on both sides of the border that my father associates with specific anecdotes of his youth. The series emphasizes everyday occurrences, departing from the media's reductive focus on the violence of that region.'

The photo essay can be found in the latest issue of Granta, No. 151, Membranes and the online edition, published 30 April 2020.
