Jack Woolley

Coming to art after a career first as an inventor, then as a chartered architect, Jack is building a practice to help him address the unravelling of apparent certainties he is experiencing in relation to the nature of materiality, architecture as a societal panacea and Britain’s imperial history. He expresses the results of his research through the medium of expanded painting, drawing on sailmaking and hydrographic skills learnt from his parents on transatlantic sailing trips. He embraces unexpected possibilities revealed through making, inverting the need for a designed specification typically required in architecture.
