Bomi explores the creation of personal mythologies and the meaning of existence through the medium of painting, navigating the suspension bridge of love that links life and death.
What may be difficult to express linguistically unravels into visual narratives, metaphors, interpretations of the complexities and the uncertainty of life–the fluidity and finitude we experience in the encounters and farewells that unfold in life.
As a child, Bomi watched a fountain, where the flowing water seemed as though it would run forever. Flowing water resembles the passage of finite time, yet also evokes a sense of eternity.
Stories and other written expressions form the foundation of Bomi’s paintings. She works with oil paints, building layers of thin, transparent glazes to create density and depth, using little to no oil. This continuous process of applying and rubbing away paint serves as a process of reinterpreting memories, drawing up pure desires from within. Diverse colours fill these ambiguous spaces of existence, hinting and revealing emotions and sensations hard to express through written and spoken language.
