Daniela de la Torre works with performance, filmmaking, and textiles, to break the continuum of experience in offering a moment of suspension of disbelief, a backdrop for a perfectly weird date. Anecdotes, scraps of fabric, song samples, pop culture references perform and attack as outbursts. Her work poses questions around what we undermine, deem pathetic and are humiliated by. These situationist stagings surface shame, guilt, forgiveness and compassion in collaboration with the viewer. She employs humor, sewing, lip sync, improvised dancing, patchwork, quilting, editing, costume, make up, and other DIY crafts from the feminine experience to create a safe space for excessive emotion that is both comforting and smothering.
