Liv Stevenson

What is lost in an exchange?

How many components constitute a whole?

Each facet is limited when isolated; the written word from the voice - the voice from the body - the body into parts. These gaps exhibit failings but enable opportunity: illustrating a knowable unknown, cultivating absence as a material through which to understand the self.

This space is not a vacuum in which sound cannot pass… but a conversation. The loss is not only of meaning or intent, reciprocation or understanding, but of bodily tangibility.

Liv uses automata, image-based text work and writings to foster a-human interactions - examining: agency, mutuality, distinctions (within humans and between the non-human), queerness, and traces…
