Aparna K Mitra

Aparna K Mitra (b.2001, London) is a painter. Her practice offers an underlying proposition of movement and musicality; articulated through colour, rhythm and space within the bounds of the frame. Ideas of pattern and architecture re-occur, suggesting moments of materiality and structure, providing tangible footholds for the imagination. Mitra draws inspiration from textile designs, Indian miniature paintings and an interest in horticulture. Working between fields of colour and a language of painted marks, she endeavours to create both harmonic and discordant tones that might be heard when viewing the work. Attention is paid to how a composition may be loud or quiet, whether it might be heavily punctuated with detail or suggest only the slightest murmur.
