Amber Ellis-keeler

am a queer, disabled artist specialising in numerous different techniques, from costume and performance to prosthetics, in addition to casting, sculpture and curating installations. My work stems from my own relationship with my body. I inspect the body, deconstructing it to remove its context, so it is no longer associated with gender ideals. Many of my public performances are a way for me to take back control over the stares of the public because I use a wheelchair and I am deemed ‘too young’ to do so. Much of my work aims to evoke reactions. I am fascinated with the grotesque and regularly employ themes of attraction, disgust and the concept of otherness. This often illustrates the people’s ingrained ableist narratives as they confront something that they haven’t witnessed before.
