Leyla Baxman

Leyla approaches her practice with personal biography at the forefront. Her work explores female evolution into adulthood and the isolating uncertainty of your 20s. This period of change, loss, and existentialism acts as the inspiration behind Leyla's practice.

"I work in my own world, filled with my own creatures and environments. I want to create art that reflects existence in unexpected, yet strangely relatable, ways."

Her work is heavily tied to femininity. Leyla finds her feminine existence confusing, saying: "It is empowering yet uncomfortable, and ever-fluctuating. My most recent work reflects this surreal experience through anamorphic beings, especially marine life, as I recognise myself in their absurdity."
