My practice operates on the boundary between art and technology. Since the advent of widely available artificial intelligence with the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, I have been investigating the potential impacts of AI on human creativity.

I believe that new technology should be actively used and explored in order to engage critically with it. I approach “AI art” with a balance between curiosity, irreverence, and an acute awareness of the wider technological and sociopolitical issues at stake. My work this year includes an audio drama generated by ChatGPT, starring human actors and an AI version of pop musician Grimes, developed as the Writers’ Guild of America have been striking over fears they will be replaced by generative AI.

My aim is to discover how far the “creativity” of artificial intelligence can be pushed, and what the consequences of doing so might be. How will all of us – not least artists, writers and creators – continue to coexist with AI?
