Yuri Hwang

Yuri Hwang has a scavenging practice. Born in Seoul but raised in Hong Kong, she is a migrant by nature and reflects upon these collaged experiences through various mediums ranging from textiles to film. Through recycling material from skips and online archives, she explores the changing definitions of authenticity and ownership in today's anonymous, cyborgian, and data-prolific age. In her practice, labor is both the end and the means; the repetitive acts of knitting and editing simultaneously reproduces and questions the idea of production in the 'middle-ground' space we currently occupy, in-between worlds both virtual and physical.
