Long-Hin Shum

Long-Hin explores what makes video games distinct from simply "interactive media".

The mechanics, the loop, the win and lose conditions, the user interface, the pause menu - all these existing infrastructures that together facilitate the idea of a game.

Long-Hin is interested in the possibility of user interface as the core of gamification, in the way it provides instructions and extrinsic information. It is often the only layer between true immediacy and immersion with the digital content.

Long-Hin's degree show work "Bullingdon Road Sims" presents a digital replica of the Ruskin Bullingdon Road Studios. The work is a real time, never ending simulation of multiple AI Agents playing the role of artists as they do tasks such as producing and hanging up art, having a snack, and going to the toilet.
