Hugo Max

Hugo Max (b. 2002, UK) is a filmmaker, painter and musician. His work considers intergenerational behaviour and tradition through the retelling of familial fables. Multidisciplinary research revolves around literal or spiritual sites of ancestral residence, anthologising a personal archive that recognises blindspots in diasporic memory. Inspired by the gestural language of postwar Jewish immigrant painting and the interpretive communication present in classical musicmaking, Max questions how these traditions might translate in contemporary art practice.
