The project saw the fusion of a musical masterpiece of the 16th century by the Franco-Flemish composer Josquin Desprez and contemporary sound art by Karikis. The relationship between classical music and sound art is a subject of ceaseless debate, and Boyce’s project explored that relationship further by juxtaposing the specific role and use of voice in the music of Josquin with interruptive vocal techniques in a specially commissioned work by Karikis.
Karikis and Alamire performed For you, only you in the chapel of Magdalen College, Oxford under the direction of David Skinner, Director of Music at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge at the climax of a programme of related choral work in Easter Week 2007. A film deriving from that performance subsequently toured Britain and Ireland as a three-screen audiovisual installation and the project was documented in an accompanying publication, which featured a 5-track CD and an essay by Jean Fisher, former editor of the international quarterly Third Text, and a documentary by filmmaker David Bickerstaff.
