Her practice-led DPhil examines gesture and pictorial figuration largely through video, text and sculptural installation, developing a phenomenological study of the point of contact between drawing implement and support during the acts of drawing and writing. This study is part of a broader studio practice that employs features of metafictional literature, asemic and blind drawing, and amateurist sculptural assemblage to create sequences of videos, texts, objects and installations that describe the processes involved in their making.

Recent UK commissions include Tate Britain, Art on the Underground, Modern Art Oxford and the London Word Festival; international exhibitions include MOCCA Toronto, ICA Philadelphia, Beton7 Athens and AC Institute New York. Recent art writing and fiction includes publications by the ICA, Live Art Development Agency and Bloodaxe, and her latest artist book 'olololo' was published by Modern Art Oxford with Book Works studio. In 2015-16 she is artist writer in residence at Spike Island Bristol, and in 2014-16 she is part of the inaugural team of research residents of the Hub at the Wellcome Collection London.

Tamarin holds a BA in linguistics and medieval Italian literature from the University of Oxford (2004) and gained her BA Fine Art Central at Saint Martins (2007). Her MFA in Art Writing at Goldsmiths (2010) examined figuration in metafictional literature and was supported by an AHRC research award and the Goldsmiths Postgraduate Scholarship. She began her DPhil in 2013, supported by the Justin Gosling Postgraduate Award, the St Edmund Hall Graduate Scholarship and the Clarendon Scholarship Fund.
