The awards, given to recognise ‘architectural excellence’, were presented at a ceremony at Ascot Racecourse compered by journalist and broadcaster Kirsty Lang.

The RIBA noted “This is a building that belongs in its place. It has a confident and crafted exterior with careful attention to detailing without any fuss. The context is industrial and this building fits in perfectly, engaging with its community.”

The Ruskin School of Art will now be considered for the RIBA National Awards which will be announced on 23 June. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings later in the year.
